Orlistat Capsules

Orlistat capsules are diet pills that are available with (Xenical®) or without (Alli™) prescription. Also, it is available in generic version (non-branded) under several different trade names.

A doctor could prescribe orlistat capsules to a person if:

• Body Mass Index (BMI) is 30 or above
• Body Mass Index is 28 or above, and patient has diabetes or high blood pressure or other medical condition that would benefit from losing weight
• Patient must be between the ages of 18 and 75 years.
• If patient continue to lose weight after six months, a doctor may advise that it continue to take orlistat. This may be for up to 1-2 years, or longer if you have a great deal of weight to lose.

Orlistat is used together with a reduced-calorie diet, and if possible along with some physical activity. However, it would not lessen your body weight by itself. Orlistat capsules are diet support pills. You still need to eat less to lose weight. This drug is also used to help people keep from gainingback weight, after weight-loss.

Orlistat Mechanism of Action

When you eat, your body absorb substances from your meal. If you could stop your digestive system to absorb fats from the meal, you would be on a right way to lose your weight easy. So, Orlistat capsules work exactly on this way, by blocking absorption of some of the fat in foods eaten. This unabsorbed fat is then removed direct in stools from the body.
